Prayer
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye of everyone that sees me,
Christ in the ear of everyone that hears me.

Christ beside me: Walking in the footsteps of Saint Patrick
The theme for this year’s Catholic Education Week (15/03 - 22/03) takes its cue from St Patrick’s Breastplate, an ancient Irish prayer of protection. The words and spirit of this prayer continue to resonate in our own time, calling us to recentre our thoughts, and to act always in service to the Gospel message of God’s liberating love. Our college was represented today at the Mass of St Patrick for Schools, held at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne. This Mass is a key celebration of the wider Catholic Education family of which we are proud to be a part.
The annual Top Screen Program showcases the creative talents of VCE Media students who have achieved outstanding results. The students selected for Top Screen 2026 were chosen from over 350 nominated films, and we are very proud to be celebrating Thomas Corboy from the Sacred Heart College Class of 2025 for his successful entry.
VCAA and ACMI held a premiere screening of each Top Screen film on Tuesday 17/03, and this event was a wonderful celebration of the talented group of future film-makers, of whom Tom is a part. Having his film played on the theatre screen in ACMI, in front of a full house of viewers was a well-deserved achievement for Tom, and his film was met with loud applause. Representing the college at this event was Ms Carla Matthews, Tom’s VCE Media teacher, and myself.
Thomas’ film “A Disagreement” explores the futility of conflict via an extraordinary fight between two brothers over the last cookie in the cookie jar. He developed and produced this film along with an exceptional production process journal. Thomas' film is one of 15 films screening during VCAA's Season of Excellence at ACMI from March 17th to May 5th. You can read more about Top Screen via this link, and you can find booking details to see Tom’s film at ACMI via this link. Be sure to vote in the People’s Choice Award if you do go along to attend a screening!
An annual event that has a significant place in the story and culture of Sacred Heart College, our Year 12 Retreat took place this week. In the peaceful surroundings of Rutherford Park, Blampied, our Year 12s took time together to slow down and engage in conversations about their spirituality, and their own connections to the riches of the Catholic faith.
With a program that makes time for stillness and silence, as well as time for laughter and communal joy, we look forward to observing the growth our Year 12s bring back from the event, and enjoying the strengthened bonds they have formed as a group. Full report next Newsletter.
Well done to all Year 7 and Year 9 students for their participation in the annual NAPLAN testing. Participation in NAPLAN helps to generate datasets that are useful for individual students and their family; for our own school; and for the broader education community. Results from NAPLAN tests are best understood when they are viewed as one part of a larger picture. These results are shared by ACARA later in the year, and the college will communicate directly with Year 7 and Year 9 families at this time.
Two significant events in the life of the college will take place next week, with our Swimming Carnival on Monday 23 March, and our annual Open Night on the evening of Thursday 26 March. We are looking forward to a great day of competition in the pool and House Spirit on the sidelines at our carnival, and hope to welcome many guests along to our wonderful school on Thursday evening. Open Night bookings can be made via the link below.
We were pleased to receive some updates this week from Dr Egberts, who is enjoying Enrichment Leave and is presently visiting Rome and Vatican City. Dr Egberts was keen to share photos from his recent audience with Pope Leo XIV, an event that he happened to share with 20 000 others!
The start of the year has been marked by two meaningful opportunities for connection, reflection, and learning within our College community.
Our Year 12 Retreat was a truly valuable experience for all involved. Set against a backdrop of reflection and renewal, students were given the opportunity to pause, connect with one another, and consider the year ahead. As they step into the final chapter of their school journey, the retreat created space not only for quiet reflection but also for strengthening relationships and building a sense of shared purpose. We extend our sincere thanks to all staff involved for their care, generosity, and attention to each student. Their commitment ensured a supportive and welcoming environment where students could restore themselves and return with clarity and focus for the VCE year ahead.
We also recently hosted a highly successful Parent Engagement Evening, delivered online, focusing on Cyber Safety. This session unpacked the new social media ban legislation and explored the challenges and realities facing young people and families in online spaces. The evening provided practical insights and guidance to support parents in navigating these complex issues with confidence. For those who were unable to attend, or who would like to revisit the content, a recording of the session is available for parents to access over the coming weeks at a time that suits them.
Together, these experiences highlight the strength of our community—working in partnership to support our young people both personally and in their learning journey.
Here is a copy of the webinar recording: WATCH PARENT WEBINAR. Passcode: t+1q?gb7
It has been wonderful to see students participating in sporting activities beyond the College, including Equestrian and BMX Cross Country.
To ensure student attendance is recorded correctly, please note the following:
If a student is representing the College at a sporting event not supervised or organised by the College:
Parents are asked to inform the Sports Coordinator, Mr Zanic, at least two weeks prior and provide a link or documentation with the event details (date and location). This allows the College to record the event appropriately in our system.
If a student is competing in a personal sporting event (not representing the College):
Parents must enter a Parent Notified Absence (PNA) through the school system for the day of absence.
Providing advance notice helps us ensure student attendance is recorded accurately while supporting student participation in sport.
Congratulations to all students who competed at the Mickleham Division swim meet at Sunbury on Tuesday 10 March.
We had seven students win their individual events; Harley Gaunt Freestyle, Ava Hagar Freestyle, Breastroke & Butterfly, Abigail Cross Freestyle & Breastroke, Natalia Scuteri Freestyle & Butterfly, Matthew Skewes Freestyle & Backstroke, Molly Ramselaar Backstroke, Simone Durrant Backstroke. From the relay events Sacred Heart managed to win 14 Boys & 16 Girls Medley relays, 13 boys, 14 girls, 15 boys, 15 girls, 16 boys & 17 girls relays.
All students involved on the day received a place, whether it was first, second or third. Sacred Heart finished third overall on the day, ending on 1510 points with a smaller squad than the two schools above them - Hume Grammar & Donnybrook Hume.
Students who qualified for the NMR round will compete on Thursday 26 March at WATERMARC in Greensborough.

A beautiful autumn day awaited our players at Hume Tennis Complex on Friday 13 March. We had 4 teams split across Senior boys and girls and Intermediate boys and girls.
The Senior boys and girls had a dominant display winning both of their pool matches, each securing a berth in the next round next week. The boys barely dropped a set across all their matches which should give them some confidence going into next week. The girls had some tighter sets, however proved too good overall but this meant that the doubles did not get played due to the score. Overall, some great rallies and close games with Sacred Heart too strong for Hume, Kyneton SC and Mount Ridley.
The Intermediate girls had a strong day but unfortunately went down in their first pool match in a close one against Hume. They backed it up with a good win to see them just miss out on the next round.
Some drama unfolded in the Intermediate boys competition with some questionable mathematics taking place resulting in the boys having to stop their playoff final and redo a set in the semi-final to ensure the results stood. The boys only needed one game out of 4 but were 2 love down in 5 minutes resulting in some nervous players (and coach) until they saved it with a sudden death point at deuce to take out the game and secure the result required . The boys will also advance to the next stage.

The players represented Sacred Heart well, and the best of luck to those continuing on the journey.
It was a thrilling day of cricket for our Year 8 Boys. Despite the light rain and less-than-ideal 'cricket weather', the team showed incredible grit and spirit.
Match 1 vs. Hume Grammar - Hume set a tough target of 2/81. SHC fought hard through the damp conditions to finish at 5/34, with Tom Williamson a standout as the pick of the batters for his composure at the crease.
Fielding Stars: Lewis Chettle and Lachlan Elliot both pulled off magnificent catches that energized the whole side.
Match 2 vs. Edgars Creek - The boys bounced back brilliantly! Our bowlers held Edgars Creek to 0/49, and SHC chased it down to finish 2/64.
Top Scorer: Hugo led the way with a powerful batting performance.
Team Spirit - A special mention to Lachie and Lewis, whose constant talk and leadership on the field kept morale high despite the grey skies. Finally, a big thanks to Hugo for stepping up as captain; his leadership and performance were key to the team's success.
Congratulations to the whole team on a fantastic day out.
Volleyball Day- it was so much fun and a great experience for everyone. Both teams showed lots of encouragement and support towards each other, which made the games enjoyable and positive.
We worked hard and were proud to win two out of five games. Even in the matches we didn’t win, we kept trying and stayed motivated and showed perseverance. Overall, it was a fantastic day full of teamwork and fun. A big thank you to Ms Roan, Ms Knight and our coaches, Mila and Calista, for helping and supporting us throughout the day! Whilst we are not going to the second round it was such a fun day and a good experience.
The Year 8 Surf Camp at Anglesea was a fantastic experience for all involved, filled with challenge, growth and plenty of fun. Across the camp, students had the opportunity to try new activities, including surfing, Stand-Up Paddleboarding, Skateboarding, Hiking and many more. All students embraced the chance to step outside of their comfort zones.
It was particularly pleasing to see the way students supported and encouraged one another throughout the camp. Whether it was cheering each other on in the water or offering reassurance during more challenging moments, the strong sense of teamwork and inclusivity was evident.
Camps like these provide valuable opportunities for students to develop resilience, independence and confidence, and our Year 8 cohort should be very proud of the way they represented themselves.
A sincere thank you goes to all staff who attended for their time, energy and care in supporting the students across the camp. A special thank you to Kirsty Barnes for her outstanding organisation and preparation, which ensured the camp ran so smoothly.
We look forward to seeing students continue to build on these experiences back at school.
Alice Brown - This year's camp was the most extraordinary camp I have ever been on. From nighttime chats to knockouts on the surfboard (that somehow were more fun than actually surfing!), I had so much fun and made so many memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I also loved the big swing - just feeling like you were flying. Also, the times when all the groups came together for lunches, dinners and breakfasts. It was so fun hearing about the activities that everyone did. This camp cemented friendships that will last forever and made me extremely excited for the year ahead.
William O'Day - Year 8 camp was a blast, it had awesome activities like surfing, S.U.P (Stand Up Paddleboarding), giant swing, mountain bike riding, overnight hikes and way more fun and exciting activities. This camp really helped me and many of my peers grow courage, strength and independence, meet new friends, grow tighter bonds with our current friends and all round have a great time. Personally my favourite part was the giant swing because I got to push myself beyond my limits and feel how great it felt after I did. In conclusion, Year 8 camp was a time for growth, pushing your limits, bonding with friends and fun.
Grace Sinclair - Camp at Anglesea was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity - a chance to try new things, push ourselves beyond our comfort zones, and connect with people we may not usually spend time with every day. From the electrifying giant swing, to the quiet determination of the hike, every activity offered something memorable. Each of us walked away with at least one stand out moment, whether it was being able to stand up on a surfboard or simply enjoying time with friends between activities. It was a camp that brought us together, challenged us, and left us with stories to talk about for a long time to come.
Matilda Gibson - My time on Year 8 camp was absolutely amazing, from onsite activities like the giant swing and crate climb, to surfing down at Anglesea main beach, I enjoyed every moment of it. Some highlights for me would definitely be the giant swing, going all the way to the top and my classmates encouraging me was definitely a favourite. And surfing, while being difficult, I had so much fun and I even stood up on the board a few times! Other than the activities during the day, free time was also amazing and a time to bond with my classmates and make new friends. There was movie night, games night, cricket, volleyball, basketball, simply talking with friends and much more. During my time on camp, I learned a lot about my new classmates and who they are as people. Overall, I had so much fun and I wish it wasn't over!
Last week, our Year 10 Food Studies students swapped the classroom for the vibrant aisles of the South Melbourne Market. This excursion provided a valuable hands-on look at our current unit on sustainable food systems.
The day began with an educational tour where students met with local traders specialising in fresh produce, deli goods, chocolate, nuts, and artisanal sourdough. A major highlight was a 'behind-the-scenes' look at the market’s impressive waste management system. Students learned how the majority of the market’s waste is recycled or repurposed including turning food scraps into nutrient-rich compost for local farmers.
After completing their fieldwork on local food systems, students enjoyed a diverse lunch featuring everything from fresh oysters and Banh Mi to homemade pastries. It was a wonderful opportunity to see and taste sustainability in action!

D&D has been running at Sacred Heart since Term 3 last year. Since then we have had a steady stream of interest and new players, most notably the incredible turnout of new players in our first session of this year! It has been an amazing experience, not only playing, but sharing the game we love, and getting to know you all! We hope that we continue to get new players and that we can continue to build stories and memories in this amazing game.
If students are interested, feel free to pop into the library on Monday at lunchtime, we’ll be happy to get you involved.
Thanks again for making this dream a reality,
The D&D team
Dungeons and Dragons is a role-playing game that gives structure to stories. Under the guidance of the Dungeon Master, players roll dice to resolve whether their attacks hit or miss or whether their adventurers can scale a cliff or pull off some other dangerous task! Players meet in the library on Mondays to gather and join. All are welcome!
On Thursday 19 March our Year 10 students completed their Morrisby Psychometric Careers Profiling.
Morrisby is a career guidance tool that highlights student individual strengths, skills, interests, work style, learning style, career aspirations – as well as helping to identify potential career pathways.
It is an invaluable tool for students’ decision making and career planning, whilst also assisting with recommended subjects for senior secondary and tertiary studies.
If your student is happy to share their Morrisby Profile, they can create a parental access 'invite' from their planner page. Once the invitation has been accepted, parents/carers will be able to view their account.
This Saturday, our Student Sustainability Leaders will be running a stall at the Riddell’s Creek Energy Expo.
The event runs from 10:00am–3:00pm, and it’s a great opportunity to see our students in action as they promote sustainability through interactive activities.
If you’re in the area, please come along, say hello, and support the amazing work they’ve been doing.

All Year 11 students attended the annual Victorian Careers & Employment Expo at Melbourne Showgrounds as part of their ongoing Careers and Pathways planning. This education, training and careers event showcases over 130 organisations and employers, highlighting a wide range of career opportunities across Victoria.
Students had the opportunity to speak directly with training organisations and employers, explore jobs of the future, learn about training and apprenticeship pathways, attend free career seminars, and participate in interactive 'Try a Skill' zones designed to engage and inspire.
Students studying VCE Outdoor Environmental Studies and Year 10 Outdoor Recreation have had a cracking start to the year. Along with their classroom studies, they have enhanced their skill and knowledge in numerous environments including one artificial.
Unit 3/4 students have visited Sovereign Hill and Portsea to enhance their understanding of how historical relationships with the natural environment have changed over time, adding valuable data into their log books.
Year 10 Students visited an indoor rock climbing centre: Gravity Worxs, and the Outdoor Recreation students paddled on the Yarra.
All of the Year 10 OES and OR students have undertaken the first steps to preparing for their first overnight adventure on the Great Ocean Walk, practicing navigation, pitching tents and camp cooking during classroom lessons.

There has been a lot happening in the Arts at Sacred Heart in the last few weeks.
Last week in VCE Theatre Studies, we had former Drama students, Dylan Bunn and Astrid Le Noury working with the students, sharing some of their experience of Theatre Studies at school and doing some lighting and sound workshops with students. The students were really grateful for their expertise!
At lunchtime, Dylan also worked with the DramaLllamas, which is our lunchtime 7 -12 Drama Club. Last week they worked in groups to create short plays and they are getting really good at creating excellent work quickly!.
In Year 7 and 8 Art, with Mrs Berend and Ms Gibson, the students are doing an appropriation task called ‘Stick to It’, where they cut up pieces of fabric and sticking them on their version of an existing artwork, looking at pattern repetition and texture, to create a whole new interpretation of that artwork. Below are some photos of their amazing work.
Creative Practice class are experimenting with different mediums added to acrylic paint. Check out their amazing work in progress below.
On Thursday 12 March, the Year 10 Art and Textiles students went to Melbourne with Ms Sullivan and Mr Gallagher for an excursion.
They went to Vivienne Westwood/Rei Kawakubo exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria and had a workshop with NGV staff, learning all about the background of the exhibition and the work of these two incredible and iconic fashion designers.
After lunch at Southgate, they also went to the National Gallery Ian Potter Centre in Federation Square and checked out this amazing venue and a number of the exhibitions on offer there.
The students were amazing and had a fabulous time. Below are some photos of the trip, mostly taken by Chloe Cestina, as well as a few comments from some of the students.
"I enjoyed the Art excursion because of all the art was very interesting. I also liked how we were all free to go off and look at what we wanted, in the Ian Potter Centre". Ben Ritchie.
"I found the Art excursion fun and interesting. The exhibition, particularly on Vivienne Westwood was my favourite part. I loved some of her dresses! Overall, it was a fun day and I enjoyed spending it with my textiles class. It was a very free day and I liked being able to roam around the exhibition and have lunch by ourselves. It was a great day"! Phoebe Martin.
"The Vivienne Westwood/Rei Kawakubo exhibition was a wonderful experience. The exhibition was beautifully created, curated and displayed incredible unique fashion pieces, along with plenty of information about each item. I got to see my favourite fashion piece, the iconic Titan tartan wedding dress worn by Kate Moss as part of the 1994 Anglo maniac collection. It was a fantastic day overall, thank you to Mr Gallagher and Ms Sullivan" – Tessa Smith.
"In the excurson, we looked at two art galleries, the NGV International, in St Kilda Road and the NGV Ian Potter Centre. I just want to say, it is probably the most beautiful and fun excursion I’ve ever experienced. Vivienne Westwood and Rei Kawakubo are such icons, especially how they express their love for fashion". Chloe Cestina
