Last week our VCE VM and VPC class took part in a radio show and podcasting program LIVE FM. Ralph, the executive producer took us through items such as the rules of radio, his career path and what led him to become a part of Live FM.
Through this program we all learned how to interview guests, host a radio show, do resets and how to finish the show. We started by all standing up and giving the introduction a go, then moved onto going in groups and interviewing either Ralph, our teachers or staff in the room.
As we did our mock interviews we learned about things like dead air, how to keep the conversation going and hand signals so no one's interrupting each other. After learning what we needed to host our own radio show and doing plenty of trial interviews there was a small group of students who learned how to do the production side of things, taking photos, recording our show and working with the mics.
By the end of Friday we had many interviews with staff and students that ranged from three minutes to over 20 mintues.
Live FM will be coming back for two more days across the Term where we will be hosting SHCK LIVE, interviewing people in our local and broader community. Overall, I think we learned a lot from this program and had a lot of fun with it. I know we're all looking forward to LIVE FM returning to Sacred Heart soon.
Year 11 VCE VM students had the opportunity to learn about the world of radio when Ralph, a producer from LIVE FM, visited our school on Thursday and Friday to give us a presentation.
The day was full of activities. Ralph started with a presentation showing us how a radio station is set up and explaining what it takes to make a good radio station. Ralph also taught us how to do a 'killer interview' and gave us tips on how to ask good questions and keep an interview interesting. He then let us use his own radio equipment so we could experience what it is like to be on a real radio station.
We interviewed some of our teachers, including Mr Cornelissen, Mrs Fenech, Mrs Hanegraaf and Mrs Dugdale-Walker. We asked them about their teaching careers, their experiences, and how they ended up becoming teachers at our school.
Overall, it was a great experience and gave us the opportunity to learn more about the world of radio while developing our communication and interviewing skills. Ralph will be back for two more days in the coming weeks and all the VM students are excited for him to be back.
