Lydia Lawrence, Learning Area Leader
Year 10 Religious Education

As a part of our studies in RE this term focused on ‘Finding our Inner Peace,’ Year 10 students took part in a series of four tailored lessons to deepen their understanding of a specific type of prayer. This year, students had the opportunity to choose from a range of teacher-led offerings, including: meditative prayer, nature journaling, zentangles art, prayer through music and dance, peace through reading, and prayer through protest and poetry.

Some students share their experiences:
In Mr Gaskell’s meditation group, we explored the many ways to meditate and the benefits of meditation. His classes provided an understanding on how meditation can connect us to God through quiet contemplation. After the initial lesson, the class split into groups and explored a type of meditation that they would then share with the class in the last lessons. We participated in and enjoyed a wide range of meditation, from walking, yoga, breathing and drawing led by each group.  Simone D and Elizabeth H

In the nature journaling group with Ms. Brennan, we sat outside in the natural environment and drew leaves, trees and anything natural that our minds came to. As a class, we all appreciated the time to be quiet, as well as enjoying the nature that surrounded us. Through nature journaling we learnt that through drawing nature we can be connected to God in all different ways. The lessons we had were very enjoyable, and a good way to learn about different forms of prayer.  Maisie S

Thank you to all the Y10 RE teachers who created these unique lesson offerings for us.
