Our Year 7 Robotics class has been buzzing with excitement this term, thanks to the fantastic new LEGO Education SPIKE Prime kits that were purchased this year! These cutting-edge sets have brought a whole new level of innovation and hands-on learning to our robotics program. LEGO Education SPIKE Prime is a dynamic STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning tool that combines colourful LEGO building elements with easy-to-use hardware and an intuitive drag-and-drop coding language, based on Scratch. The heart of the system is the programmable Hub, which features input/output ports, a light matrix, Bluetooth connectivity, a speaker, and sensors, allowing students to bring their creations to life and interact with the world around them.
Our Year 7 students have fully embraced the new kits, diving headfirst into exploring a diverse range of different builds. From designing basic vehicles to more complex robotic arms and pinball machines, their imaginations have been running wild. The next exciting step has been learning to program these creations to make them move. Using the accessible block-based coding, students are learning fundamental programming concepts such as sequences, loops, and conditional statements. It's been incredible to see their faces light up as their carefully constructed robots respond to their code, performing a variety of movements and tasks. The new LEGO Education SPIKE Prime kits are proving to be an invaluable addition to our school, inspiring our young innovators to think like engineers and programmers.
