My God, I am yours for time and eternity.
Teach me to cast myself entirely
into the arms of your loving Providence
with a lively, unlimited confidence in your compassionate, tender pity.
Grant, O most merciful Redeemer,
That whatever you ordain or permit may be acceptable to me.
Take from my heart all painful anxiety;
let nothing sadden me but sin,
nothing delight me but the hope of coming to the possession of You
my God and my all, in your everlasting kingdom.
Amen.
This week’s prayer is the “Suscipe”, a prayer that is particularly special for the Sisters of Mercy as in that the early sisters used to pray with their foundress, Mother Catherine McAuley.
On Tuesday, I was privileged to take a number of College student leaders and staff to the Academy Mary Immaculate, Fitzroy, (the oldest Catholic girls secondary school in Victoria) for a mass to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the death of Mother Ursula Frayne, the first Sister of Mercy to land in Australia in 1846.
Last night, the Mary Moloney Theatre was full of families and students who were entertained by a rich offering of musical ensembles. This celebration of the performing arts is held every semester and provides the opportunity for students learning an instrument at Sacred Heart to perform as part of an ensemble – such events provide invaluable lessons in collaboration as well as unique opportunities to meet students from a range of year levels. Congratulations to each of SHC’s fabulous instrumental music team for your leadership of the night and especially to Angus Smith and Kai Li who MC’d the evening. Full report and photos will be in next Newsletter edition.
At the close of the performance, I was able to announce the appointment of a new Head of Music for Sacred Heart College. Mr Josh McGuffie will join the College next term with responsibility for all aspects of the College’s Music program. Josh is currently Head of Senior School Music at Girton Grammar in Bendigo and is looking forward to growing the already rich music offerings at SHC.

Congratulations to the Year 9 SRC leaders who organised today’s casual clothes day – its focus on the importance of sleep and rest for wellbeing is an important message for all young people particularly given the ubiquitousness of electronic devices, social media and gaming.
The next two weeks will see most students complete their end of semester examinations. These provide an important guide for students and teachers on academic progress for the year thus far. I encourage all students to take note of the revision guidelines offered by their subject teachers and dedicate additional study time at home over coming days.

The Chettle family on the passing of Terrie Hollingsworth, grandmother of Lewis Year 7, and the O'Brien family on the passing of Mary Dorey, aunty of Matilda Year 8. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
