Tasmania - Independence and Applied Learning Camp

The following information is aimed to better help you prepare for the Year 9 Camp in lutruwita/Tasmania. The program is designed to provide students with real life learning opportunities throughout their journey with an integrated curriculum along the way. The Camp also aims to assist in the development of students independence and further enhance their travel skills to assist in their engagement in our interconnected world.

The camp is split into two itineraries Group A (Tassie Devils) and Group B (Tassie Tigers). Group A travels from north to south. Group B travels from south to north.

The camp involves some extensive travel arrangements including a flight and boat journey across Bass Strait, travel via coach and on foot around some of lutruwita/Tasmania’s tourism hot spots. Students will visit key icons in a number of locations including Devonport, Launceston, Freycinet National Park, Port Arthur and Hobart. Whilst at these locations students will undertake a number of activities that are integrated into their curriculum and complete a project on their visit in their final week of school.

There is also a strong focus on student’s development of the Victorian Curriculum’s ‘Capabilities’ with a particular focus on the Personal and Social Capabilities. Students will be presented with numerous opportunities to develop within this area.
