Catholic Primary School Scholarhips

Sacred Heart College values the relationship it has with each of the feeder Catholic Primary Schools. The College continues the tradition of offering Scholarships to one student from each of the following feeder Primary Schools:

  • St Ambrose Primary School Woodend
  • St Brigid’s Primary School, Gisborne
  • Holy Cross Primary School, New Gisborne
  • St Mary’s Primary School, Lancefield
  • St Mary’s Primary School, Castlemaine
  • Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School, Kyneton

The details and criteria are:

  • One scholarship to be awarded annually to a Grade 6 student at each of the six feeder schools.
  • Recipient to be decided by the Principal of each school.
  • Scholarship to take the form of a $500 deduction from tuition fees each year for six years, i.e. Year 7-12.

It was agreed the following criteria would be used by each of the Primary Schools in determining the recipient:

  • Confirmed enrolment at SHC for Year 7
  • Dedication to school work
  • Commitment to ethos of the Catholic school
  • Contribution to school community
  • Involvement in school activities
  • Friendly, polite, considerate of others

Music Scholarship Program

The Music Scholarship provides an opportunity for 10 x talented and committed student to continue developing their musical skills at Sacred Heart College.Students wishing to be considered for the Music Scholarship must apply each year and participate in the College audition process.The details and criteria are:

  • 9x Music Scholarship will be awarded annually. The Music Scholarship is valued at $500 and provides a significant subsidy towards the student’s instrumental music lessons.
  • 1x Pianist Scholarship will be awarded annually. The Pianist Scholarship is valued at $1000 and provides a significant subsidy towards the student’s instrumental music lessons.
  • The recipient will be selected by the Head of Music, following the audition process.
  • The scholarship amount will be credited to the family account.
  • The scholarship is awarded for one year and students wishing to continue receiving consideration must reapply and complete the audition process each year.

Scholarship Recipient Expectations

As a recipient of the Sacred Heart College Music Scholarship, the student is expected to:

  1. Attend instrumental music lessons regularly and punctually.
  2. Adhere to the College’s conditions regarding non-attendance of instrumental music lessons.
  3. Demonstrate consistent progress in their chosen instrument, including regular daily practice and appropriate preparation for examinations, performances and other musical commitments.
  4. Study with an SHC Instrumental Music teacher.
  5. Perform at College recitals and other appropriate College musical events when requested.
  6. Participate actively in at least one College ensemble, contributing positively to the musical life of the College.

The Music Scholarship recognises not only musical ability, but also commitment, participation, consistent practice and a willingness to contribute to the wider musical life of Sacred Heart College.
