The Grand Final of the 2019 Sacred Heart College Junior Chef Competition was held on Wednesday evening, involving students in Grade 4 representing six Catholic Primary Schools from the region. The students were challenged to prepare a stack of three pancakes with a mixed berry sauce for the first round of the competition and fresh fettucine with a napoletana sauce for the Grand Final. Well-respected local food identities (Tansy Good – Tansy’s Kitchen, Kyneton and Damian Sandercock – Piper Street Food Co.) were joined by the Sacred Heart College staff member and chef, Troy Christmas – The Caterers of Kyneton, in the judging of this event.
The winners on the night were the team from Our Lady of the Rosary Kyneton, with the St Ambrose team finishing in second place by just one point. The winning school received a $250 gift nursery voucher to allow them to purchase plants for the school’s kitchen garden and all competitors received a gift of kitchen items from supporting local business Mort & Pestle – the Kitchen Shop Woodend.
